Művészetek Völgye, or Valley of Arts, is Hungary’s largest arts festival, held every summer since 1989. For 10 days, the quiet villages of Kapolcs, Taliándörögd, and Vigántpetend come alive with music, theatre, visual art, literature, and more. Started as a small local event, Művészetek Völgye has grown into a huge celebration of creativity, attracting artists and visitors from Hungary and around the world. It’s a perfect place for anyone who loves culture, nature, and community.
At Művészetek Völgye, there is something for every kind of art lover. Over the 10 days, you can enjoy nearly 3,000 events spread across more than 40 different venues. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Music for Every Taste: From energetic indie rock and folk music to smooth jazz, classical concerts, and even world music performances, the festival offers a huge variety of sounds. Big-name bands and local musicians share the stages, creating a lively and diverse music scene.
Theatre and Dance: The festival features many theatre productions, including new plays, improvisational theatre, and dance performances. You can catch professional shows and more intimate performances that let you experience art up close.
Visual Arts and Exhibitions: Art lovers can visit galleries and exhibitions showing works by well-known Hungarian artists and emerging talents. Paintings, sculptures, and interactive installations are on display, making art accessible and fun.
Literature and Discussions: Writers and poets take part in readings, workshops, and discussions. These events offer a chance to meet authors, discover new books, and join conversations about culture and creativity.
Family-Friendly Activities: There are many programs designed for children and families. These include creative workshops, storytelling sessions, and interactive performances that entertain and inspire visitors of all ages.
Lake Balaton, often called the “Hungarian Sea,” is Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake and a top holiday destination known for its clear waters, sandy beaches, and vibrant resorts. The festival takes place in three small villages in the Balaton Uplands: Kapolcs, Taliándörögd, and Vigántpetend. These villages are surrounded by beautiful nature and hiking trails. You can enjoy walking through quiet streets, visiting local museums, or hiking nearby trails. There are also nice restaurants serving traditional Hungarian food and markets where local artisans sell handmade crafts.
