Experience the pure emotion of the Holy Week with moving Easter parades and passionate processions in Málaga!
Celebrated throughout Spain, the week before Easter, it marks the short final period in the life of Jesus Christ named the Passion of Jesus. Semana Santa (Holy Week) is one of 30 Fiestas of International Tourist Interest of Spain, a distinction given to festivals for their importance in Spanish culture and traditions as tourist attractions.
Celebrations in Málaga during this week have 42 brotherhoods carrying sculptures and images resembling the period of the Passion of Jesus in Málaga neighbourhoods. On Holy Monday is the longest parade of the week; on Holy Tuesday is the Virgen de las Penas parade a throne and a religious figure with a mantle of flowers; on Maundy Thursday is the Parade of Legionaries and more to go for the rest of the week. There are also charity events throughout Málaga, such as soup kitchens, food and clothes donations, or entertainment for the elderly!
